Nathaniel Fick
CEO/Investor/U.S. Ambassador/Marine/AuthorNathaniel Fick is a technology executive, diplomat, Marine, and writer.
He served from 2022-2025 as the inaugural U.S. Ambassador for Cyberspace & Digital Policy at the Department of State, leading American diplomacy around the world on technology issues including cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, digital regulatory policy, and emerging technologies.
Nate started his career as a Marine Corps infantry and reconnaissance officer, including combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. His book about that experience, "One Bullet Away", was a New York Times bestseller, a Washington Post "Best Book of the Year," and one of the Military Times' "Best Military Books of the Decade." His unit’s experience in Iraq was the basis for the award-winning HBO miniseries “Generation Kill.”
He graduated with high honors in Classics from Dartmouth College, where he won a national championship title in cycling and was inducted into the athletic hall of fame. Nate also holds an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He has served on the boards of many companies and not-for- profit organizations, including as a Trustee of Dartmouth College, a board member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and as audit committee chair on the board of directors of Strategic Education, Inc. (NASDAQ: STRA).
Nate is an avid outdoorsman and a Registered Maine Guide. He lives on the Maine coast with his family.
